
NZCCA Junior/Youth
The NZ Cowboy Challenge Association encourages and supports youth in our sport. A Youth Division is mandatory at any Points Approved Challenge, and Youth compete up to 18 years (inclusive).
We have a Youth Scholarship to assist with horsemanship coaching and entry fees (see below for details), a dedicated Youth Good Sport Award and Youth competitors may register for Hi Points awards.

Junior Scholarship for under 12 2025 Winner is Blake Saulala

Criteria:
1. Applicant to be aged 12 years & under (inclusive) at the time of application.
2. Commitment to compete in a minimum of two Points Approved Cowboy Challenges in the 2025-2026season (1 May to 30 April) in Youth division.
3. Recipient/s must become a member of NZCCA (if not already).
4. Reports on progress are to be submitted to NZCCA Council halfway through and at the end of the season(these will be sent on to any sponsor).
5. Any horsemanship coach/mentor used must be approved in advance by NZCCA.
6. If for any reason the recipient is unable to compete in at least two Challenges, they (or parent or guardian)must advise NZCCA at the earliest opportunity explaining why. Some or all of the Scholarship funding maybe withheld. Note that funding will be provided by reimbursement upon provision of receipt or paid directly on your behalf.
● All applications will be considered by the NZCCA Council (or subgroup of). The decision made will be final.All applicants will be contacted as soon as possible after the closing date. Unsuccessful applicants mayrequest feedback on their application if they wish.
● NZCCA reserves the right to not award the scholarship.

Our Scholarship supports a youth competitor over a season through funds towards the cost of horsemanship coaching/ mentoring that will assist with competing in a Challenge and entry fees for Points Approved Cowboy Challenges.

Criteria:
1. Applicant to be a Rookie at the time of application.
2. The Rookie rider/horse combination in their first or second season.
3. The rider must not have been an Intermediate rider previously on any horse.
4. Commitment to compete in a minimum of four Points Approved Cowboy Challenges in the 2025-2026 season (1 May to 31 April) in Rookie division.
5. Recipient/s must become a member of NZCCA (if not already).
6. Reports on progress are to be submitted to NZCCA Council halfway through and at the end of the season (these will be sent on to any sponsor).
7. Any horsemanship coach/mentor used must be approved in advance by NZCCA.
